The CNC engraver uses a rotating tool to remove material. The engraving is designed on computer software, converted to numeric commands for each axis of motion. These commands are sent to the machine and the spindle that spins the tool is moved by stepper motors or servo motors. While quality and repeatability are clear advantages for CNC routers, the process can also be performed by an unattended machine which lowers the cost of labor.
